The possible consequences of the decriminalization of cannabis in Brazil

The following study seeks to establish the legal and socio-political bases that led to the prohibition of Cannabis in Brazil, with the aim of measuring the impact that such measures had on the way the country deals with the subject and its consequences in the current anti-drug policy. This approach aims to clarify and relate the social historical context to the legal one as a way to add value and raise the level of information in the debate on Cannabis decriminalization and show how Brazil can take advantage of the potential that the plant presents to solve several problems. such as the economic crisis, medical-scientific development and the overcrowding of Brazilian prisons, while demonstrating the perspective that guided the prohibition of marijuana until the present day. In the end, it can be concluded that Cannabis provides Brazil with opportunities to solve the various problems discussed here, provided that an efficient policy is applied to it and that its due importance is taken into account. The research method used was a detailed bibliographical and documental review about the theme and works related to it.
