Abstract

The present work aims to analyze the evolution of legal and social approaches related to domestic and family violence against women, focusing on Law 11,340/06, known as the Maria da Penha Law. The research addresses the problems arising from this type of crime, the relevant points, innovations brought by legislation and the social impacts of this violence. The aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of the law in its preventive action, through public policies implemented by the government, aiming to expand the network of support, assistance and protection for victims. However, it appears that violence against women continues to be a daily challenge, as society is still marked by the patriarchal system and gender inequality and the normalization of abusive behaviors. In the end, it can be concluded that although the Maria da Penha and Feminicide Laws represent significant advances, more integrated reinforcements are needed regarding limited resources, ineffective supervision and the lack of social awareness that makes it increasingly difficult to confront violence against women, investment in public policies, training of professionals and partnerships between the State and organizations are essential, reinforcing education and respect between men and women that could transform stereotypes of inequality between them, while rigorous punishments reinforce the urgency in protect the human dignity and women's lives. The methodology adopted include bibliographical research, analysis of legislation, reviews of scientific articles and study of statistics on violence against women, for a more in-depth understanding of the topic.
