Abstract

Technological advances and the increasingly constant use of the internet, especially social networks, through portable devices such as tablets, smartphones, have made the practice of cybercrime increasingly timely. In view of this scenario, in 2019, SARS-CoV-2 was discovered, an acute respiratory infection caused by the coronavirus, which led to a pandemic with the need to adopt measures such as social isolation to reduce the transmission of this virus, which allowed the population to to stay at home longer and consequently more connected to the internet, drawing the attention of cyber criminals who took advantage of this moment of global fragility to practice cyber-crimes. In this scenario, this study seeks to analyze the increase in cybercrime during the COVID 19 pandemic, as well as the effectiveness of the methods used to combat these crimes. This work was developed through bibliographical research and was based on static data and legal texts that address the aforementioned theme. Which made it possible to observe the emergence of new cyber criminals, as well as the adoption of a new modus operandi by criminals who previously committed crimes in the physical environment. In the end, it was possible to verify that despite the legislative and investigative measures implemented, the Brazilian legal system and researchers are not managing to keep up with technological advances and cybercriminals who are proving to be better prepared and faster.
