Abstract

Cleft lip and palate is a congenital malformation of embryonic origin that affects the palate and lip region, resulting in significant dentofacial alterations. This condition negatively impacts the life of the affected individuals, causing adverse effects on feeding, speech, aesthetics, and triggering psychosocial problems. It is the most prevalent craniofacial anomaly in humans, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach to alleviate the criticisms and prejudices faced by these patients. Therefore, this work aims to inform and raise awareness among dentists about cleft lip and palate, covering its etiology to treatment, emphasizing the impact of dental anomalies and dental interventions on the quality of life of these patients.
