Abstract

This work seeks to show what obstetric violence is, which is all the action practiced by professionals that removes the autonomy of their own bodies from women before, during and after childbirth, as unnecessary procedures such as episiotomy where an cut in the woman's vulva to facilitate the exit of the fetus or the point of the husband where the episiotomy is sutured with extra stitches in order to make the place tighter, or the Kristeller maneuver where pressure is placed on the upper part of the patient's belly to force the baby out. Another example of violence is the ban on a companion, a woman has the right to choose a person she trusts to accompany during childbirth, even though there is a Federal Law that prohibits conduct, there are still hospitals that violate this rule. Obstetric violence is also considered the psychological violence that women suffer, such as the threats and insults that the parturient suffer or the lack of information about the procedures performed. These practices of obstetric violence only occur because many women still do not know their rights, and if they know each other, they do not know how to report it, because there is no specific legislation that regulates acts as a crime and punishes those responsible for practicing violence, even there are laws state, municipal, but these are not effective, as there is no penalty for conduct. So, the best solution for the theme would be the humanization of childbirth, making birth as natural as possible while respecting the natural time of each birth.
