Abstract

This scientific article analyzes the legal effects of foreign criminal judgments in Brazil, focusing on their recognition and enforcement. The study provides a brief historical overview of the recognition of foreign judgments in the country and discusses the legal requirements for this process. It also raises the question of whether the enforcement of a foreign judgment violates national sovereignty. The research adopts a qualitative approach, through a systematic literature review of doctrine and case law, including international treaties, domestic and foreign legislation, judicial decisions, and scientific articles. The aim is to contribute to the legal debate by providing theoretical and practical insights to legal professionals and fostering discussions on international legal cooperation and the importance of careful analysis of laws and treaties in cases involving foreign criminal judgments.
