Abstract

Cancer patients, due to the immunosuppression caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, face serious complications such as Oral Mucositis, an oral inflammation with a risk of systemic infections. Recognized as the most debilitating complication of these treatments, oral mucositis can require prolonged hospitalizations. Laser therapy emerges as an effective and non-invasive alternative for its treatment, reducing inflammation, relieving pain, and promoting healing, especially in pressure ulcers. This research seeks to explore its benefits, including the prevention of relapses, through a review of randomized clinical trials and analysis of therapeutic protocols. We aim to define the best therapeutic approach considering clinical and histological aspects of low-level laser therapy, aiming to offer a more effective and comfortable approach for patients facing this debilitating complication.
