Abstract

In recent years, dentistry has been undergoing transformations with regard to diagnosis, prevention and rehabilitation with the use of technology. This work presents a literature review based on articles published on selected platforms. Implant dentistry has been growing considerably, thanks to technological advances, which have made it easier for both professionals and patients. Guided surgery is one of these new techniques and is constantly evolving, as it simplifies the procedure, making it less invasive, increasing its predictability and reducing: edema, postoperative pain and swelling. Guided surgery makes the procedure more agile, precise and conservative. Using plaster models made in the laboratory with acrylic resin or digitally with 3D virtual planning printed by CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing) it is possible to produce surgical guides. There are numerous advantages to guided surgery, however it is important to highlight that this technique also has limitations.
