Abstract

this study, a comprehensive review was carried out on the use of botulinum toxin type A as a therapeutic approach to bruxism, a disorder characterized by teeth grinding or clenching. Bruxism can cause pain, tooth wear and problems in the stomatognathic system. Although botulinum toxin type A does not cure bruxism, it has been shown to be effective in relieving symptoms by reducing muscle activity in the muscles involved. Bruxism is a multifactorial condition, related to occlusal and psychological factors, such as stress and anxiety. Several therapies, including occlusal splint, medications, and botulinum toxin type A, have been used to treat bruxism. This review addressed the action of the toxin, its effects, application sites, contraindications, and side effects. It was concluded that its careful use by skilled professionals can provide relief from the symptoms of bruxism. This study contributes to knowledge about this therapeutic approach and emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to improve patients' quality of life, inspiring future research, and advancements in Dental Practice.
