Abstract

The search for aesthetic treatments, associated with patients' demands and expectations for a more harmonious smile, has made dentistry evolve significantly, where treatments are being created with the aim of improving the alignment and beauty of teeth, such as dental veneers. The objective of the present study is to study and demonstrate the clinical performance of resin and ceramic veneers, focusing on their indications and what influences the clinical longevity of each one. To this end, a search was carried out in the LILACS, PubMed and BVS databases, using the descriptors “dental veneers”, “ceramics”, “composite resin” and “longevity”. The increase in the search for aesthetic and long-lasting treatments drives the development of new techniques, new materials and the improvement of those that already exist, aiming for greater longevity, resistance and mimicking the natural characteristics of teeth. Veneers have become an excellent treatment option for patients looking for great aesthetic rigor, in order to regain self-esteem and rehabilitate oral dysfunctions. It is considered that the indication of the restorative material depends on the patient's complaint and expectations, as well as the evaluation by the professional, who must know and base his planning, in order to intervene in an effective and individualized way. It is concluded that both resin and ceramic veneers present excellent results, when correctly indicated, in addition to also having their respective advantages and limitations, with the creation of a treatment plan being essential to obtain good aesthetic, functional and harmonic results.
