Abstract

Down syndrome (DS) or trisomy 21 (T21), consists of a genetic error during embryonic division, a chromosomal mutation that triples chromosome 21. Resulting in pathologies that affect the physical and cognitive development of patients, they present orofacial dysmorphic characteristics and various manifestations present in the oral cavity that cause serious oral problems. The present study aims to identify, through a narrative literature review, the orofacial characteristics and anomalies present in the oral cavity of patients with Down Syndrome, also addressing the importance of dental follow-up from early childhood, management techniques during consultations, daily care to keep oral health up to date. In order to help their caregivers and dentists to know the syndrome, thus helping in a better quality of life for patients with Down Syndrome.
