Operating procedures and the importance of the Palatine Memory Plate (PPM)

Abstract

The Palatine Memory Plate is a device developed by Rodolfo Castilho Morales and indicated for children who have hypotonia and lingual protrusion and absence of lip sealing, characteristics of the orofacial pathologies of children with Down Syndrome. The device seeks to promote the muscle tone of the body and head, using the orofacial function and brings significant benefits to individuals with Down Syndrome. The technology used to improve and facilitate the operational procedures in dentistry also contributed to facilitate the process of making this device. Thus, the objective of this study was to detail the operational procedures, from the preparation, the necessary care to the importance of the use of the Memory Palatine Plate. The use of the plate is indicated for periods ranging from 30 minutes, up to 2 hours and frequency of two to four times a day. In addition to the Palatine Memory Plate bring benefits to individuals with Down syndrome, it is necessary a multidisciplinary follow-up with other professionals.
