The Lakatos Epistemology Under the Sex and Gender Social Construction

Abstract

Based on the Lakatos epistemology the article discusses the construction of the concepts
of sex and gender from two programs to analyze the evolution of the concept of these two themes
in the theoretical and practical level. The first program exposed has its context in the modernity
of the eighteenth century, and coined the idea of a binary gender, relating it to the concept of
gender and sexuality. The second, which came in the second half of the twentieth century, is the
queer analytical program. Contextualized in the post-structuralism, it aim to puts an end to the
binary logic set by the previous program. From the philosophy of Lakatos the paper analyzes the
theoretical and practical development of both programs in order to conclude whether the first was
ride out by the second, and the consequences brought about by these developments, if any.
